Top Ten Exterior Lighting Tips
With our years of experience in design and installation of exterior garden lighting from the small garden to major landscaping projects, we advise the following:

1. Use the best equipment you can afford.

2. Research and plan carefully.

3. Treat the system as modular, add luminaries over time to spread cost.

4. To minimise the risk of damage, consider using recessed lights, where children or animals are present.

5. Position transformer to minimise the length of low voltage cable runs and reduce voltage drop. (Ensure minimum 10.5 volts at all luminaries).

6. Load transformers to 80% of maximum load, this leaves scope to add extra luminaries at a later date.

7. Ensure all junction boxes are sealed with hard setting electrical sealing resin to prevent ingress of water, dust and insects.

8. Experiment with effects and take time to evaluate your work, with a view to improvement.

9. Ensure your system complies with IEE 16th Edition regulations. You must now have a qualified electrician to check your system on completion.

10. Low voltage systems require very little maintenance, but to maintain optimum effect, remove fallen leaves and clean lenses as necessary
